Don't let notes lock without diagnosis

some clients do not have a diagnosis so maybe the requirement can just be that something has to be written in the line rather than actually linking a diagnosis. For example, being able to type n/a

I'm noticing a lot of comments pro and con regarding requiring a diagnosis. The situation I'm guessing people want to guard against (who want this feature) is the risk of locking a note without a diagnosis under insurance billing scenarios that almost always do require a diagnosis.
My first though is, could "Dx Required" enforcement only be activated when "Billing Type = Insurance"? The problem with that would be for practitioners seeing people as Cash Pay who want to use a diagnosis, or for situations where there might be out of network insurance billing or when a diagnosis is helpful for other reasons.
So, one option would be to make diagnosis mandatory but let us include in our list of diagnosis codes something like "000.00 - No diagnosis assigned".
Another option would be an on-by-default popup warning before we sign and lock a note: "This note does not include a current diagnosis. Are you sure you want to lock it?" with the option "[ ] Don't show this warning again".

I use the "current diagnosis" question in my note template...and so there is no "required" option. I can certainly understand and appreciate the flexibility in wanting to make this optional for all who use this EHR but since a diagnosis can only be added through the note. Its easy to finish the note and lock it... only to then have to unlock it to add the diagnosis code. Also the ability to remove a diagnosis in the note but then have to remove it AGAIN on the tab after locking the note is.... so inefficient.

Please do NOT make the diagnosis mandatory. Please allow the option to mark it as "required" if people wish. For those not working with insurance, we do not need to assign codes and diagnoses to our visits, so that would be an inconvenience.

This exists already. Set the dx as a required field in the note template.

Shawn Faust, I don't think that applies if you are using the "Current Diagnosis" question type. But it would if you were just using a textbox.

Please make this optional. I don’t bill insurance, and like to work on intakes over a few visits. I still need to lock my notes to pin certain items. Features like this is one of the main reason I moved away from my former EHR.

I see that this is planned and that's awesome. Can we have it so our "diagnoses" section in our note lists all dx assigned to that patient and we can check the ones applicable? RIght now it sometimes double-adds the dx. Thanks.

I just want to emphasize that this feature needs to be OPTIONAL - however you implement it. There are many of us

NO! I don't do "diagnosis" because I am acting as a health coach, but I still want to be able to lock my notes.
